14 Harness
(See Jacquards). The harness of a jacquard machine is the series of cords from the machine to the mail eyes which control the lifting of the warp threads. From the jacquard hooks downwards there are six items: tail pieces attached to the hooks of the jacquard, an upper coupling connecting a tail piece to the cord which passes through the comber board, the mail eye, a lower coupling connecting a mail eye with a lingo. Jacquard harnesses are arranged in various ways. In a full harness each mail in a tie can be lifted independently. In pressure harness several threads are drawn in each mail, the satin or other ground weave being effected by healds in each mail, independently of the jacquard harness. In a split harness one or more threads can be worked by each mail to form figure the ground weave being effected by healds or comber boads. -
